Tving Confirms 'The Great Escape' Season 6 as Cast Shake-Up Looms Without Yeo Jin-goo

Streaming platform Tving has officially confirmed the production of a new season of The Great Escape, bringing back one of Korea's most beloved variety franchises for its sixth overall installment. The announcement, made on February 26, comes with a notable caveat — the cast lineup remains entirely undetermined.

"The Great Escape has confirmed production of a new season," a Tving representative told media outlets. "The cast, filming schedule, and other details are all currently undecided." The new season will continue under the title The Great Escape: The Story, which was adopted when the show transitioned from traditional television to the Tving streaming platform.

A Franchise with Deep Roots

The Great Escape has been a staple of Korean variety entertainment since its debut in 2018, when visionary producer Jung Jong-yeon — the mind behind hit programs like The Genius and Society Game — brought the escape room concept to television with remarkable fidelity. The show's premise is elegantly simple yet endlessly creative: a team of cast members must solve puzzles, decode clues, and navigate elaborately designed spaces to achieve their escape.

The original run produced four seasons on tvN between 2018 and 2021, building a fiercely loyal fanbase drawn to the program's unique blend of intellectual challenge and comedic chemistry. The most significant change heading into Season 6 involves Yeo Jin-goo, who was selected for the KATUSA (Korean Augmentation to the United States Army) program and enlisted in the military last year. His absence creates a guaranteed opening in the lineup, and sources indicate that several celebrities have received casting offers and are currently in discussions about joining the show.

Director Lee Woo-hyung is expected to continue leading the production, maintaining creative continuity with the previous Tving season. Whether the remaining Season 5 cast members — Kang Ho-dong, Kim Dong-hyun, Yoo Byung-jae, Go Kyung-pyo, and Baekhyun — will all return remains an open question, with negotiations reportedly ongoing.
